Sergeant Cory Wride

Sergeant Cory Wride, a Utah County Sheriff’s Deputy, encountered a vehicle with its flashers on while on patrol on SR-73 near Eagle Mountain, Utah.Sgt. Wride was was mortally wounded when a suspect suspect inside the vehicle opened fire and subsequently fled. After a long pursuit and gunfight, the suspect was mortally wounded.Sgt. Wride is survived by his wife and five children.
Sergeant Derek Johnson

Moments before completion of his overnight shift in the early hours of September 1, 2013, Sergeant Johnson approached a vehicle that seemed out of place, only a few blocks away from the station. As he neared the suspicious vehicle in his car, a man shot Sgt Johnson, firing at the police vehicle multiple times. The assailant, who fired from his own vehicle, then shot a female companion before turning the gun on himself. While Sgt. Johnson’s wounds were fatal, the assailant and his companion did not suffer mortal wounds in the incident. Johnson was an Explorer Scout in high school and worked for the Draper Police Department for eight years. He is survived by his wife, who was his high school sweetheart, and a young son.

Trooper Aaron Beesley died after falling from a cliff while performing a search and rescue mission in Salt Lake County.Trooper Beesley, a tactical flight officer for the agency, had been assisting in the search for two missing teenage hikers along the Mount Olympus Trail. The helicopter located the two and Trooper Beesley was placed on the ground to assist them. As the the two were airlifted to safety Trooper Beesley was left at the scene.When the helicopter returned to retrieve Trooper Beesley he could not be located. He was located at the bottom of a 90-foot cliff a short time later. It is believed he was attempting to retrieve a backpack when he fell from the trail.Trooper Beesley had served with the Utah Highway Patrol for 13 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.
Master Police Officer Jared Francom

Weber-Morgan Narcotics Task Force
Homicide: Shooting
Officer Francom was fatally shot while serving a ‘knock and announce’ search warrant in Ogden, Utah. Five other officers were wounded when the 37 year old suspect opened fire on the scene. Among these five, four were from the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Task Force, and one was an officer from another agency who responded to the ‘1033’ call for assistance.Jared served on the Ogden City Police Department since 2004. He was also the President of the Ogden Police Benefit Association.Officer Francom is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Deputy Josie Greathouse Fox

Deputy Fox was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Highway 50, one mile east of Delta. The 37-year-old victim had stopped a vehicle and was approaching when fired upon with a high-powered rifle. At least one of the rounds passed through her body armor and inflicted a fatal wound. The suspect fled the area. Following a statewide hunt by law enforcement, the suspect was found hiding in a shed in Beaver County. He is currently incarcerated and awaiting trial on charges that include first-degree murder. Deputy Fox was married and the mother of two children. Her bronze memorial plaque is sponsored by the Millard County Sheriff’s Office and Millard County Peace Officers Association.
Sergeant Franco Aguilar Died April 29, 2010 Age: 36

Sergeant Franco Aguilar died instantly as the result of a fall from a freeway overpass. The 36-year-old victim had responded to the scene of a one-car traffic crash atop the Fish Creek overpass on Interstate 70, approximately 12 miles east of Interstate 15. While Sgt. Franco was investigating the incident, the driver of an approaching vehicle lost control on the icy road and collided with the first. Sgt. Aguilar either fell or was knocked from the overpass. He is survived by his wife and five children. His bronze memorial plaque is sponsored by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Fort Duchesne.
Officer Joshua Yazzie Died June 7, 2010 Age: 33

Officer Yazzie, 33, died when his patrol vehicle rolled 200 feet down an embankment on the side of Bottle Hollow Dam on the Ute Tribe reservation in Duchesne County. At approximately 6:20 p.m., the officer was responding to assist ambulance personnel with an intoxicated man who was becoming violent. Officer Yazzie lost control of his vehicle and was ejected when it rolled, killing him instantly. He is survived by his wife and two small children. His bronze memorial plaque is sponsored by his wife Jessica and children Jaxsen and MaCee Yazzie.
Deputy Brian Harris Died August 26, 2010 Age: 41
Kane County Sheriff’s Office
Homicide: Shooting
Deputy Brian Harris was shot and killed while tracking a burglary suspect in the desert near Fredonia, Arizona. Deputy Harris had begun a foot pursuit of the man in Kane County, but the man fled across the border into Arizona. As Deputy Harris tracked the man’s movements he was fatally struck by rifle fire. A large manhunt was initiated in which the suspect exchanged fire with other officers multiple times. The suspect, who was familiar with the desert area, was believed to have stored supplies in various locations. Deputy Harris is survived by his wife and two daughters.
